Welcome to The Woman's Missionary Union of Liberia

Woman’s Missionary Union is an auxiliary of the Liberia Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention. The Baptist Convention is the cornerstone of the nation and has been in twin development partnership with the nation since inception. As the nation has grown in age and experience, so has the Baptist work in areas of education, health delivery, Evangelism and Church expansion. As the nation and church approaches the end of its second century of work in Liberia, having survived many turbulent times especially over the last three decades, we can now happily breed a new sense of relief as we enter a new dispensation of peace, quiet and blessings.

About six years ago, the nation elected Africa’s First Female President in a free and fair internationally observed elections. In November 2011 the nation repeated what it had done in 2006 as the able incumbent President, and Nobel Prize award winner, Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was re-elected for a second six year term. Coming out of a generation of civil conflict and fifteen years of civil war and direct chaotic engagement, where the nation loss 300,000 citizens about 10% of her compatriotic to a senseless war; with the second investiture of her induction and inauguration for a second term on January 16th; we can now thank our Maker and God to be alive and still in His service. With her preferment a second time to the Presidency of the nation, Liberians can proudly say the nation is again gaining international respectability; taking its rightful place among the nations of the world and particularly among the Baptist Community of Believers.

Similarly, in 2006, the Baptist Women of Liberia elected Mrs. Olivia B. Hill, their President of the National Woman’s Missionary Union. This timely selection has made all the difference for Baptist Women leadership in the Liberia Baptist Convention, the Western Region of Africa and Baptist Women Union of Africa of the Baptist World Alliance. Apart from the many projects Mrs. Hill’s leadership has introduced and accomplished, we did undertake a major project of hosting the Regional Baptist Women of the States of ECOWAS in November 2010. This meeting, of West African Baptist Women in Liberia, proved to be the largest number of Africans assembled in Liberia since the OAU was held in Liberia in 1979. The President of Liberia graced the occasion by opening the convention and welcomed the women. Several days later, at the end of the Conference, the Vice-President of the Republic, Hon. Dr. J.N. Boakai, himself Baptist, closed the program by thanking the Baptist women for coming to Liberia as he bitted them safe return home.
